Ozzy Osbourne, famously known as the “Prince of Darkness,” passed away on July 22 at the age of 76. While the world knew him as a larger-than-life rock star and the frontman of Black Sabbath, to Kelly and the rest of the Osbourne family, he was simply "Papa." That’s how Lisa Stelly—Jack Osbourne’s ex-wife and the mother of Ozzy’s grandkids—described him in her own tribute. She posted a series of touching photos of Ozzy with his grandchildren, writing, “The world got Ozzy. We got Papa.” It’s a reminder that beyond the stage persona, he was a loving grandfather, father, and husband.
Ozzy spent his final days in his home in England, surrounded by family, music, and peace—exactly where he wanted to be. According to a source close to the family, Sharon Osbourne, his wife of over four decades, had hoped for just that: for him to pass peacefully at home, and that wish was fulfilled.
Just two weeks before his death, Ozzy performed one last time with Black Sabbath at Villa Park in Birmingham. It was a powerful and emotional farewell performance—his first with the original band members in 20 years. Despite being frail, he made it to the stage, cracked jokes, and gave the fans one last show. His sister Jean Powell recalled getting a text from him that night as he drove through their old neighborhood, amazed at the crowds showing up for him.
