Shock and Sorrow: ‘American Idol’ Music Supervisor Robin Kaye Killed in Double Homicide

I'm still processing this tragic news, and I think many of us in the music and entertainment world are feeling a deep sense of disbelief. Robin Kaye — a name so respected, loved, and familiar within the industry — has been killed. Yes, Robin Kaye , the longtime music supervisor behind American Idol , was found dead alongside her husband, Thomas Deluca, in what’s now being investigated as a double homicide. It’s heartbreaking.

This all unfolded in their Encino home in Los Angeles. According to law enforcement, a welfare check was initiated after the couple hadn’t been heard from for several days. What the LAPD discovered was nothing short of horrifying — both Robin and Thomas were found with gunshot wounds to the head, each in separate rooms. The initial details make it chilling. The police didn't find any signs of forced entry or burglary, and the house wasn’t ransacked. That alone raises more questions than answers.

Apparently, there had been a prior incident just a few days earlier — someone reportedly tried to break in and may have even been armed. A neighbor saw someone hopping the fence, prompting a police response, but nothing came from that visit. Whether that was connected to the murders or not remains uncertain. What is certain is that Robin and her husband were loved, respected, and did not deserve this.

Robin wasn’t just a behind-the-scenes talent. She shaped the sound and emotional tone of one of America’s most beloved shows for over 15 seasons. She was an award-winner, having earned accolades from the Guild of Music Supervisors, and also lent her expertise to Lip Sync Battle and countless other high-profile productions. Her resume is a reflection of a career built on talent, passion, and relentless dedication.

To hear her described by American Idol colleagues as “a cornerstone of the Idol family” and “truly loved and respected by all” only underscores the magnitude of this loss. The entertainment world lost more than a professional — it lost a creative force and a compassionate soul.

As of now, no suspects have been arrested, and the LAPD’s Valley Bureau Homicide Division is actively investigating. It’s terrifying to think that whoever did this is still out there. For now, all we can do is mourn and hope for justice.

Robin Kaye's name deserves to be remembered for her life, her work, and the joy she brought to millions — not just the horror of how she died.
