América Stuns Atlas With 4-2 Comeback in Liga MX
What a night of drama at the Estadio Jalisco, where Atlas and Club América delivered one of the most entertaining clashes of the Apertura 2025. The match, originally delayed due to thunderstorms, ended in a thrilling 4-2 victory for América, who once again showed why they remain undefeated this season.
The game started cautiously, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm after the rain. But once the action picked up, it didn’t disappoint. América struck first in the 21st minute when Brian Rodríguez converted from the penalty spot. That early goal put the visitors in front, but Atlas wasn’t about to back down. Just before halftime, Gustavo del Prete unleashed a thunderbolt from distance to level the score, sending the home crowd into celebration as the first half closed at 1-1.
The second half opened with even more fireworks. Within minutes, Diego González and Uroš Đurđević combined to give Atlas a 3-1 advantage, the stadium roaring as the Red and Blacks looked on track for a much-needed win. But football has its cruel twists, and América took full advantage of their depth and tactical shifts.

Coach André Jardine rolled the dice with a triple substitution that completely changed the momentum. The introduction of Kevin Álvarez, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Raúl Zúñiga breathed new life into the Azulcremas. Álvaro Fidalgo equalized in the 73rd minute after Álvarez’s dazzling run and cross, and from that moment, América smelled blood.
Things unraveled for Atlas in the 82nd minute when captain Aldo Rocha received a red card for a dangerous tackle. Reduced to 10 men, the hosts struggled to hold back the wave of attacks. In the 89th minute, Allan Saint-Maximin announced his arrival in Liga MX with a thunderous strike, marking his debut goal and swinging the game América’s way.
The final blow came deep into stoppage time. After a controversial penalty was awarded, Camilo Vargas initially denied Víctor Dávila, but the Chilean was quickest to the rebound and buried the ball for América’s fourth. The comeback was complete.
The result leaves América unbeaten with four wins and two draws, climbing within striking distance of league leaders Monterrey. Atlas, meanwhile, remains stuck with just one win in six matches, their defensive struggles once again exposed.
Beyond the scoreline, this was a showcase of América’s resilience and squad depth. Even after falling behind, their substitutions and intensity proved decisive. For Atlas, the frustration will linger, especially as the red card and missed opportunities cost them dearly.
In the end, América’s 4-2 victory will be remembered not just for the goals but for the statement it sent: this team is a serious contender, capable of turning adversity into triumph, and they are only getting stronger as the season unfolds.
