If you're a fan of Dexter , you might want to sit down for this — Dexter: Resurrection is officially underway, and it’s not pulling any punches. Yes, Michael C. Hall is back as our favorite forensic analyst-turned-serial killer, Dexter Morgan, and things are getting intense fast. The revival kicked off earlier in July, and it’s already made a splash with a mix of familiar faces and surprising additions, including Neil Patrick Harris and Eric Stonestreet, who are playing brand-new villains this time around.
This season, which is essentially being seen as a rebirth of the franchise, is giving us a darker, more layered look at Dexter's world — and his legacy. According to the show’s creator Clyde Phillips, this is more than just a reunion. It’s a launching pad. He’s packed Season 1 with "uber-villains," and hinted that this could be the beginning of a long run. What makes it more intriguing is the shift in setting and tone — with some scenes unfolding in New York City, the chaos feels bigger, colder, and somehow even more dangerous.
The storyline doesn’t just follow Dexter either. His son, Harrison, is stepping into the spotlight — and apparently into the same shadows Dexter once walked. At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, there was a special moment where the entire Morgan family, including Dexter and his late father Harry (played again by James Remar), came together to reflect on Harrison's... let's call it "initiation." It was revealed that Harrison has made his first kill — and the big question now is whether he’ll follow the code or fall off the rails.
Fans have been promised an exciting ride, with nine episodes total for this debut season. Episode 5, titled “Murder Horny,” drops today, August 1, on Paramount+ Premium — airing at midnight Eastern, or 9 p.m. Pacific Thursday night. The season continues weekly every Friday, all the way through September 5, with some pretty ominous titles like “The Killing Room Where It Happens” and “And Justice For All…”
So if you’ve missed Dexter’s twisted moral compass, his voiceovers, or just the unnerving charm of a killer who only kills the bad guys — this might be your moment. And for those new to the series, this season seems to be designed as a fresh start too. Whether Harrison is going to carry the torch or burn it all down? That remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure — darkness runs in the family.
