Disney+ Pulls the Plug on “Goosebumps” After Two Seasons
Disney+ has officially confirmed that Goosebumps , the streaming series based on R.L. Stine’s iconic horror books, will not be returning for a third season. The announcement caught fans by surprise, especially considering the show had built a loyal audience and racked up more than 75 million viewing hours in the U.S., plus another 43 million internationally across 16 markets.
The first season debuted in October 2023 and followed five high school students unraveling a decades-old mystery tied to a teenager named Harold Biddle. Season two, which arrived in January 2025, took a different approach, centering on fraternal twins who moved in with their recently divorced botanist father. When strange events began to unfold, they and their friends dove into uncovering the truth. Across both seasons, the stories wove in elements from multiple Goosebumps books rather than adapting one per episode.
The cast list was impressive. Season one starred Justin Long, Rachael Harris, Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig, and Will Price. Season two brought in David Schwimmer, Ana Ortiz, Jayden Bartels, Sam McCarthy, Elijah M. Cooper, Francesca Noel, and Galilea La Salvia. Behind the scenes, the series was developed for television by Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman, with Hilary Winston as showrunner, and produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with Disney Branded Television and Scholastic Entertainment.
Although no official explanation for the cancellation was given, sources indicated that Sony Pictures Television is planning to shop the show to other platforms and explore fresh creative directions for the franchise. This means Goosebumps might still find a new home—something that should be encouraging for fans who aren’t ready to say goodbye.

The decision has also stirred conversation for another reason: Goosebumps becomes the third Disney project with queer representation to be canceled in recent years. It follows the 2023 cancellation of Willow and the 2024 axing of the Star Wars series The Acolyte . Additionally, controversy arose when Disney removed a trans storyline from Pixar’s animated series Win or Lose , sparking criticism from those concerned about declining LGBTQ+ visibility in its programming.
The Goosebumps property is no small cultural icon. Since its debut in print, it has sold more than 400 million copies in English, with translations into 32 languages. It’s been adapted into a 1990s anthology TV show and two feature films in 2015 and 2018. The Disney+ version was intended to bring a modern twist for both nostalgic adults and a new generation of viewers.
Whether the series finds a second life elsewhere remains to be seen, but for now, fans are left with two seasons of eerie mysteries, creepy creatures, and the hope that this isn’t the last time Goosebumps will come to life on screen.
