Jay Blades Faces Serious Charges Ahead of Court Appearance
TV personality Jay Blades, widely recognised for his role as the warm and empathetic host of The Repair Shop , has recently been charged with two counts of rape. The news has shocked fans and viewers across the UK, especially given his previously celebrated public image and career in daytime and primetime television.
According to West Mercia Police, the 55-year-old presenter — whose full name is Jason Blades — is due to appear at Telford Magistrates’ Court on 13 August 2025 in connection with these allegations. The police confirmed that the charges are based on alleged incidents, though specific details have not been made public yet.
In addition to the rape charges, Blades also appeared via videolink at Worcester Crown Court earlier this week in relation to a separate case involving a charge of controlling or coercive behaviour. That case is said to involve his estranged wife, Lisa-Marie Zbozen, and relates to events allegedly occurring between January 2023 and September of the same year. Blades has denied those allegations and is currently on conditional bail for that matter.

For those who may not be familiar, Jay Blades rose to national prominence after The Repair Shop debuted on the BBC in 2017. The show became an unexpected hit, featuring everyday people bringing sentimental items in need of repair — items often rich with family history. Jay's compassionate presence and ability to connect with people made him a beloved figure in British homes. The show's popularity grew so much that it moved to a primetime slot and even featured a special episode with a royal guest. In 2023, it won a National Television Award and a Bafta.
Beyond The Repair Shop , Blades also hosted shows like Money for Nothing and Jay and Dom’s Home Fix . In 2022, he fronted a personal documentary about learning to read at 51, which touched many viewers. He was also honoured with an MBE in 2021 for services to craft and restoration.
However, in 2024, he quietly stepped back from his presenting role on The Repair Shop , though no direct link was made at the time to any legal matters.
With court proceedings set to begin soon, many will be watching closely as this once-celebrated figure faces serious accusations. As always, under the legal system, Jay Blades is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and the full course of the judicial process will now unfold.
