Kim Kardashian Faces Backlash Over Pricey Stem Cell Pain Cure
Kim Kardashian has once again found herself at the center of a heated online conversation, this time over a medical treatment she swears changed her life. In a candid post on Instagram, the 44-year-old reality star and SKIMS founder shared her struggle with years of brutal shoulder pain that started when she tore her shoulder lifting weights two years ago. She described the pain as “debilitating,” and said she had tried every possible treatment available in the U.S. with no success.
That changed, according to Kim, when she learned about stem cell therapy and traveled to Eterna Health in Mexico to meet Dr. Adeel Khan. She revealed that the clinic treated her shoulder with Dezawa Muse cells™️, and the results were immediate — full range of motion restored, pain gone. Encouraged by that success, she returned recently to treat chronic back pain that had plagued her for years, saying she experienced “instant relief” and called the procedure a “game-changer.” Kim even posed with her doctor in one of the posts, expressing heartfelt gratitude for restoring her hope.

But there’s a catch — this treatment isn’t available in the U.S., and it comes with a hefty price tag. Reports suggest the shoulder procedure alone can range between $4,000 and $15,000. Stem cell therapies like the one Kim underwent are controversial in America, largely because of ethical and political debates surrounding embryonic stem cells. While some stem cell sources, like umbilical cord or bone marrow, are less controversial, not all offer the same regenerative potential as embryonic cells.
Her post sparked an immediate reaction online, and not all of it was supportive. Many followers accused her of promoting an expensive, inaccessible procedure, leaving comments such as “Hey Kim, we’re poor,” and “She talks like everyone can just hop on a flight to Mexico for special treatment.” Others joked about the disconnect between her celebrity lifestyle and the struggles of ordinary people.
Kim did acknowledge that the treatment isn’t right or realistic for everyone. She urged her audience to research thoroughly and consult medical professionals before considering it, adding that she hopes scientific advancements will one day make such treatments more accessible.
The controversy comes as no surprise to those familiar with her history of extreme approaches to health and beauty. In 2023, she returned to the gym just weeks after tearing her shoulder and tendon, and in 2022, she famously dropped 16 pounds in three weeks to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s iconic Met Gala dress.
Whether seen as a bold health pioneer or an out-of-touch influencer, Kim’s stem cell story has reignited the debate over the ethics, cost, and accessibility of cutting-edge medical treatments — and it’s unlikely the conversation will die down anytime soon.
