Massive Blaze Devastates Historic Woolton Hall in Liverpool
Hey everyone, I’ve got some dramatic news coming out of Liverpool tonight. A massive fire has completely engulfed Woolton Hall, one of the city’s oldest and most historic buildings. The blaze erupted at the abandoned Grade I-listed manor house on Speke Road around 8:09 pm, and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were on the scene just minutes later.
Built way back in 1704, Woolton Hall has had a really interesting history. Over the centuries, it has served as a private manor, an army hospital, a convent, a school, and even a hotel. But in recent years, it had fallen into disrepair, making it especially vulnerable. Sadly, tonight it was fully engulfed in flames, and drone footage shows the roof has collapsed and thick smoke could be seen miles away, even as far as Prescot.
Firefighters acted quickly, deploying five fire engines and an aerial platform to tackle the inferno. Water supplies were immediately established, and Merseyside Police stepped in to manage traffic, closing roads in both directions. Residents in the area were advised to keep doors and windows shut and to take any necessary precautions if they have medical conditions.

It’s not the first time Woolton Hall has faced fire. Back in 2019, another blaze broke out at the building, which was treated as an arson attack. Fortunately, firefighters back then were able to save the building from total destruction. The incident sparked concerns from local campaigners about the risk of future fires, and now, tragically, those fears seem to have been realized.
Woolton Hall has long been recognized for its architectural and historic importance. After being saved from demolition in the 1980s, it earned its Grade I-listed status and was later added to Historic England’s Heritage at Risk register. Over the years, its empty halls and crumbling structure have become something of a symbol of Liverpool’s rich history being left to decay.
Videos and images being shared online show flames consuming the two-story stone building, highlighting just how intense the fire is. Crews are working hard to prevent the blaze from spreading further, but at this stage, the damage is severe, and the collapse of the roof marks a major loss for the city’s architectural heritage.
