Pakistan Links Exposed in Pahalgam Attack After Operation Mahadev
So here’s what’s recently come to light about the Pahalgam terror attack—and it's pretty explosive. In a massive breakthrough, Indian security forces carried out Operation Mahadev on July 28 and neutralized three top Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists who were directly responsible for the horrific Pahalgam shooting earlier this year. What’s striking is how deep the evidence runs—linking them straight back to Pakistan with irrefutable documentation and biometric data.
The three terrorists—Suleman Shah (also known as Faizal Jatt), Abu Hamza (alias "Afghan"), and Yasir (also called "Jibran")—were all senior Lashkar commanders and Pakistani nationals. They had been hiding out in the dense Dachigam-Harwan forest region in Kashmir since the day of the attack, carefully avoiding detection until the operation was launched.

During the shootout that ended their run, voter ID slips issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan were recovered from the bodies of Suleman and Hamza. The IDs even had serial numbers that traced back to electoral rolls in Lahore and Gujranwala. And that’s not all—security teams also recovered a memory card from a damaged satellite phone, which turned out to be a goldmine. It held biometric data—fingerprints, facial recognition templates, even family trees—from Pakistan’s own NADRA database, confirming their citizenship and specific home locations in areas like Changa Manga and Rawalakot in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
There were even candy wrappers found in their bags—products manufactured in Karachi with packaging batch codes that matched shipments sent to Muzaffarabad in May 2024. Small details like these added another layer of undeniable proof.
Now let’s rewind a bit. According to intelligence reports, these men crossed the Line of Control near Gurez back in May 2022. They had been in hiding ever since. On April 21 of this year, they were sheltered overnight by two locals in a hut near Baisaran Valley—who have now been detained. The very next day, April 22, they carried out the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians and then escaped northeast into the forests of Dachigam.
Everything—from GPS trackers, to bullet casings, to DNA from the crime scene—matched perfectly with evidence recovered from the site of Operation Mahadev. Even their communication device was tracked pinging a satellite nightly for months, allowing agencies to narrow their search.
The report also confirmed who was pulling the strings. The operation was overseen from across the border by Sajid Saifullah Jatt, a senior LeT commander based in Lahore, whose voice was identified in sat-phone recordings. Even more chilling, funeral prayers for the slain terrorists were reportedly held in PoK, and LeT leader Rizwan Anees was seen leading the ceremonies.
So now, with all this information out, there's no room left for denial—this was a planned cross-border attack, executed by trained foreign militants, with absolutely no local involvement in the actual shooting. The precision of the operation and the sheer amount of proof collected have made one thing very clear: the Pahalgam attack wasn’t just an act of terror—it was a state-linked infiltration.
