So, here’s the buzz that’s got Marvel fans spiraling into speculation mode — a fresh rumor has surfaced about Avengers: Doomsday , and it’s all about Robert Downey Jr., not as Iron Man this time, but as the iconic Marvel villain Doctor Doom. The movie, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, is set to hit theaters in December 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following a year later. But according to scooper Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus, this isn’t just another ensemble superhero flick. In fact, Doctor Doom might actually be the main character of the whole thing — very much in the way Thanos dominated Avengers: Infinity War .

The story, as rumored, paints Doom not as a cackling, mustache-twirling villain, but as someone who truly believes he’s the hero of his own tale. Apparently, Doom becomes aware of dangerous “incursions” threatening the multiverse and decides he’s the only one who can put a stop to it. His solution? Using a young Franklin Richards to achieve his goals. Of course, in classic Doom fashion, ensuring that he remains on top is just as important as saving reality itself. He’ll reportedly lead something called “Team Doom” — although the name might be misleading since Doom, in his own mind, doesn’t really need anyone’s help. Whether that “team” consists of other villains, multiversal variants, or even his mechanical Doombots is still up in the air.

Now, here’s where things get wild. While Marvel has officially confirmed an already massive roster of 25 characters — including Thor, Captain America, Ant-Man, Namor, Loki, Magneto, and the entire Fantastic Four — a second, unverified “leaked” list is making the rounds. This supposed cast expansion throws in another 33 characters, from Doctor Strange and Hulk to the entire Guardians of the Galaxy team, more X-Men, and nearly every surviving MCU hero and sidekick you can think of. That would push the total to a staggering 58 characters — nearly double the already jam-packed Avengers: Endgame , which featured around 28 major players.

To put it bluntly, that’s a lot of capes and egos to juggle in under three hours. It’s highly unlikely all those names will make it in, especially in meaningful ways, and insiders are cautioning fans to take this “mega-cast” rumor with a grain of salt. Still, the confirmed presence of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom as the central figure of Avengers: Doomsday is enough to spark plenty of excitement — and maybe a bit of apprehension — about where Phase 6 of the MCU is heading.

Whether Doom turns out to be a twisted savior or a ruthless conqueror, one thing’s for sure: the spotlight will be his, and the multiverse may never be the same.
