Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey & More Set for 2025 MTV VMAs
The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards are shaping up to be one of the most exciting nights in music. This year’s ceremony will be hosted by LL COOL J and broadcast live coast-to-coast from New York’s UBS Arena on Sunday, September 7, airing at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, simulcast on MTV, and streaming on Paramount+. It will also mark the very first time the VMAs are televised on CBS, a move that is already adding to the buzz.
Headlining the announcements is Lady Gaga, who is making a long-awaited return to the VMAs stage. Gaga, the most nominated artist this year with 12 nods, will perform for the first time since 2020. Many of those nominations are tied to her hit collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile.” Her performance is expected to be one of the biggest highlights of the night, though fans may notice it will likely come from Madison Square Garden, where she is scheduled for her Mayhem Ball Tour on the same evening.
Equally historic, Mariah Carey will be honored with the prestigious Video Vanguard Award. Carey, who has had a massive year with renewed chart success, will perform a career-spanning medley, giving fans a rare chance to relive her biggest hits live on the VMAs stage. Meanwhile, Busta Rhymes will be recognized with the Rock the Bells Visionary Award, and Ricky Martin will receive the very first Latin Icon Award, cementing his influence in global pop culture.

The performers list reads like a who’s who of current chart-toppers and legends. Viewers will see sets from Doja Cat, Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae, Post Malone, J Balvin with DJ Snake, Alex Warren, Jelly Roll, Conan Gray, and Sombr. Rising stars will also get their spotlight, as the VMAs Extended Play Stage has been moved into the main show for the first time. First-time nominees Bailey Zimmerman with The Kid LAROI, Lola Young, and Megan Moroney will take the stage to perform their breakout hits.
The excitement begins even earlier with the official pre-show hosted by Nessa and Kevan Kenney. Girl group KATSEYE will bring high energy with performances of their singles “Gnarly” and “Gabriela.” That pre-show will be broadcast across multiple Paramount-owned networks, from MTV and BET to Nickelodeon and Comedy Central, ensuring the hype builds before the main event.
Presenters this year will also bring plenty of star power. The lineup includes Ciara, Drew Barrymore, Ashlee Simpson Ross, Brittany Snow, Ice Spice, Latto, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, and even the fictional K-pop trio HUNTR/X from KPop Demon Hunters , voiced by EJAE, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna.
MTV is branding this year’s VMAs as “Music’s Most Iconic Night,” and judging from the performers, awards, and tributes planned, that title seems fitting. With legends like Carey and Martin sharing the stage with fresh chart-toppers such as Carpenter and McRae, and with Gaga poised for another unforgettable moment, the 2025 VMAs promise to be a celebration of music’s past, present, and future.
