NHL Preseason 2025 Schedule and Broadcast Plans Unveiled
Hockey fans, the wait is over—because the NHL preseason is finally here, and there’s plenty to look forward to before the puck officially drops on the 2025–26 season. The league has lined up a massive 104-game preseason slate that stretches from Saturday, September 20, through Saturday, October 4. This stretch of games is always special because it gives everyone a first glimpse of new rosters, hungry prospects trying to secure roster spots, and veterans shaking off the offseason rust.
One of the biggest storylines this year is the farewell appearance of goaltending legend Marc-André Fleury. Though retired, Fleury signed a professional tryout agreement with the Pittsburgh Penguins just so he could wear the black and gold one last time. Fans will see him in action on September 27 when Pittsburgh hosts the Columbus Blue Jackets, a game that will be broadcast on NHL Network. Considering Fleury helped the Penguins capture three Stanley Cups, that night promises to be emotional not only for Pittsburgh fans but for hockey fans everywhere.

From a broadcast standpoint, fans won’t miss a beat. NHL Network is set to carry more than two dozen preseason matchups, and TNT will also televise one game. Streaming options like Sling TV are making it easier than ever to tune in, whether you want to catch your favorite team or just sample some of the action around the league.
On the team side, the Vegas Golden Knights have announced a detailed preseason broadcast plan of their own. Six of their seven preseason games will be streamed live on KnightTime+, the club’s official streaming platform. The only exception will be the September 30 matchup against the Colorado Avalanche, which TNT has picked up nationally. To make it even better for fans, KnightTime+ is offering free streaming during the preseason, complete with new DVR features that let viewers pause, rewind, and fast-forward live action.
Scripps Sports will also televise five Golden Knights preseason contests locally, meaning fans in Southern Nevada can follow nearly the entire journey. And for those who prefer to listen, every game—home and away—will be available on the VGK Radio Network, including FOX Sports Radio Las Vegas.
Of course, the preseason isn’t just about broadcast schedules. It’s a vital stretch for coaches and players alike. Prospects are being evaluated under real game conditions, while veterans are easing back into rhythm and looking to avoid untimely injuries. It’s also the last time fans will see this many preseason games. Starting in 2026–27, the NHL will reduce each team’s preseason slate by two games as the regular season expands to 84 contests.
So whether it’s tuning in for the Golden Knights’ opener against the Sharks on September 21, catching Fleury’s farewell in Pittsburgh, or just sampling the league-wide action, fans have plenty of ways to dive into hockey before the real grind begins. The regular season gets underway October 7, but until then, preseason offers the perfect warm-up for what promises to be another thrilling year on the ice.
