Simon Pegg and Ralf Little Join Channel 4 ThrillerHunting Alice Bell
Channel 4 has just confirmed an exciting new addition to its drama line-up, and it’s already generating a buzz. The project is called Hunting Alice Bell , a six-part psychological thriller produced by Clapperboard Studios, the same team behind The Ex-Wife and The Teacher . What makes this announcement particularly exciting is the powerhouse cast and the sharp, unsettling premise at the heart of the story.
So here’s the setup: Alice Bell is a former nurse who also happened to be the lover and accomplice of a notorious anaesthetist serial killer. After disappearing, she’s been living in Britain under a new identity, hiding in plain sight. But things take a sinister turn when Fran Da Silva, an ordinary woman with a happy family life, is suddenly accused online of being Alice Bell. That accusation detonates her life overnight, as mob hate floods in and her entire world collapses. And she’s not alone—Fran discovers that other women are also being accused of being Alice Bell. Together, they form a fragile alliance, determined to clear their names. But here’s the chilling twist: what if one of them actually is Alice Bell?

The cast is stacked with some of Britain’s most recognizable actors. Alex Roach will lead as Fran, joined by Amanda Abbington, Emily Barber, Toni O’Rourke, Christina Bennington, and Rudi Dharmalingam. Fans of Death in Paradise will be glad to see Ralf Little stepping into the role of Graham Hunter, while Simon Pegg, best known worldwide for Mission Impossible and Shaun of the Dead , plays Dr Jason Nash. It’s a blend of talent that promises both intensity and nuance.
Behind the camera, the writing is led by comedian and broadcaster David Baddiel, working with Peter Bradshaw, Polly Buckle, and Kate Verghese. Paul Walker is set to direct all six episodes. Baddiel has explained that the story was inspired by real cases in the UK where women were targeted and terrorized by their communities, after suspicions spread that they were secretly living as infamous hate figures. Over time, he says, the idea evolved into a drama that shines a light on destructive rumor-mongering—how social media can whip up mob rage, distort identities, and ruin lives.
The show isn’t just a whodunnit. It’s part thriller, part family drama, part social satire. At its heart, it raises very contemporary questions: How easily can identities be stolen in an online world? How quickly can a rumor destroy a life? And how dangerous does it become when an entire community—or the internet hive mind—decides who you are, regardless of the truth?
With its strong creative team, gripping premise, and cliffhanger-driven structure, Hunting Alice Bell looks set to be one of Channel 4’s most talked-about dramas. It isn’t just about unmasking a killer—it’s about unmasking how we, as a society, deal with suspicion, mob justice, and the fragile nature of identity in the digital age.
