Dallas and Drayton’s Final Play inSidelined 2
So, Sidelined 2: Intercepted picks up right where fans were hoping it would — with Dallas and Drayton still together, still in love, and both finally living the college dreams they worked so hard for. She’s at CalArts chasing her dance ambitions, and he’s playing first-string quarterback at USC. On paper, everything is perfect. But the movie wastes no time showing that the realities of college life aren’t nearly as romantic as the couple once imagined.
Their days are packed, their campuses sit across Los Angeles from each other, and Dallas doesn’t even have a car, so the two are surviving mostly on texts, voice notes, and late-night calls. When they do manage to meet up, it’s far from smooth. Awkward roommate interruptions, overslept alarms, and a missed game quickly snowball into deeper cracks. Dallas arrives late to Drayton’s big game — and doesn’t catch the moment he injures his ACL. That injury becomes a turning point, keeping him off the field and hitting him harder emotionally than he’s willing to admit.

The stress makes everything tense, and new people come into their lives just when they’re most vulnerable. Dallas meets Skylar at a coffee-shop job interview, and despite a hilariously awkward first interaction, they click almost instantly. He’s artistic, kind, and sees her potential, especially when he asks her to star in his music video. Their chemistry builds quietly — long glances, warm hugs, and moments where it’s clear he understands her struggles in a way she really needs.
Drayton, meanwhile, spends more time with Charlotte, his physical therapist. She pushes him to face reality about his recovery, and they bond through long training sessions. When she tests the waters and invites him to her dorm, he turns her down, realizing it would only complicate things further. It’s one of those moments where you can feel how hard he’s trying to stay loyal to what he and Dallas built.
But despite all their effort, the truth becomes impossible to ignore. The relationship is stretching them thin instead of lifting them up. After missing each other’s important moments, and feeling out of sync more often than not, they finally sit down and admit that breaking up may be the only way to let each other breathe. Dallas says it best: “You’re a dream, but you’re not my only dream.”
Just when it seems they might find their way back, another twist lands. They share Thanksgiving together, open up about still thinking of each other every day, and even fall back into old feelings. But the next morning, Dallas leaves quietly, choosing to follow the pull of a show in New York. When she returns for Drayton’s comeback game and asks if he believes in “right person, wrong time,” the answer hangs in the air — hopeful but uncertain.
Their final kiss feels less like an ending and more like a promise that life may bring them back together someday. For now, though, they walk in opposite directions, each choosing the future waiting for them beyond the 50-yard line.
