It was a night of dominance and drama on the Gold Coast as India outclassed Australia in the fourth T20 International, sealing a convincing 48-run victory and taking a 2–1 lead in the five-match series. The match had everything — aggressive batting, sharp bowling, and some stunning collapses — but it was India’s spin attack that truly turned the game on its head.

After being asked to bat first, India posted 167 for 8, a total that seemed competitive but not unassailable. Shubman Gill led the charge at the top with a composed 46 off 39 balls, showcasing his trademark elegance with well-timed boundaries and a monstrous six over midwicket. His opening partner, Abhishek Sharma, survived an early scare — dropped on just the second ball — and went on to contribute 28 in a brisk 56-run stand. However, once Gill fell to a clever slower ball from Nathan Ellis, India’s innings lost momentum. Adam Zampa and Ellis tightened the screws with some disciplined bowling, each taking three wickets as India stumbled from a strong 2–121 position to finish with 167.

Australia, chasing 168, began brightly. Captain Mitch Marsh and opener Matt Short looked comfortable early on, scoring freely against India’s pace attack. At 1–67, Australia appeared well on track. But then, India’s spinners began to weave their magic. Axar Patel, who was later named Player of the Match, bowled with surgical precision. His spell of 2 for 20 completely derailed Australia’s momentum, forcing errors through sheer accuracy and pressure. Varun Chakravarthy chipped in with 1 for 26, while Washington Sundar delivered a stunning late burst, taking 3 wickets for just 3 runs.

From 1–67, Australia collapsed spectacularly, losing their last nine wickets for just 52 runs to be bowled out for 119 in 18.2 overs. Glenn Maxwell’s much-anticipated return from injury was short-lived — he managed only two runs before being cleaned up by Chakravarthy. Tim David tried to mount a late assault but fell to a short delivery from Shivam Dube right after hitting a towering six into the stands.

Axar Patel summed it up perfectly after the match, saying, “In these conditions, bowling wicket to wicket was the most important thing.” His assessment proved spot-on as India’s spinners completely strangled the Aussie lineup.

With this win, India not only claimed the series lead but also sent a strong message ahead of the final T20 in Brisbane. Australia will now have to regroup quickly if they hope to level the series at the Gabba on Saturday. For now, though, the night belonged to India — a team that once again showed why their spin power remains one of the most feared weapons in world cricket.
