Jordan Pickford Opens Up on His Love for Motocross and Dream of World Cup Glory
Jordan Pickford, the ever-reliable England and Everton goalkeeper, has opened up about a side of his life that not many fans get to see — his deep passion for motocross. Yes, before he was saving goals in packed Premier League stadiums, Pickford was spending weekends at dirt tracks, cheering on friends as they raced through the mud. It’s a sport he truly loves, but one he’s not allowed to participate in anymore due to strict clauses in his Everton contract.
In a recent BBC interview, Pickford shared that motocross has always been part of his life growing up. He used to spend his childhood weekends at the racetrack with his friends, one of whom — Carlton Husband — now competes professionally in the British Championship. Pickford said he wishes he could be out there racing alongside him but admitted, “I’m not allowed to do it as a footballer, but I would love to. I grew up going to watch it every week with my mates, and my best mate now rides in the British Championships.”

The England number one described those early motocross days with nostalgia — staying in caravans, watching races from sunrise to sunset, and feeling the rush when the gates dropped and riders flew into the first corner. “The adrenaline I get from watching my mates on the start line is unbelievable,” he said with a grin. “If I could, I’d still be there every week.”
Unfortunately, those contract restrictions are quite common for professional footballers. Clubs often prohibit players from taking part in risky activities like skiing, surfing, or motocross to avoid injuries that could impact their careers. For Pickford, it’s a tough rule to follow, given his lifelong love for the sport. But even though he can’t ride, his enthusiasm for it hasn’t faded — he still follows the races closely and cheers on his friends whenever possible.
On the football side, Pickford also spoke about his ultimate career goal — to win the World Cup with England. With over 80 international caps, he’s been a key part of England’s recent successes and remains one of Gareth Southgate’s most trusted players. “To lift that World Cup or any major trophy for England would be number one for me,” he said passionately. “And if I could win silverware with Everton, that would be number two.”
He believes the team has what it takes to go all the way. “We’ve had great opportunities. The experiences we’ve gained from tournaments and watching other players lift big trophies can inspire us,” he explained. “We just have to believe in ourselves and take every chance with both hands.”
So while Jordan Pickford might not be tearing up the motocross track anytime soon, his competitive fire still burns strong — whether it’s chasing down football glory or cheering from the sidelines of a muddy racetrack.
