Luis Enrique’s Drive at PSG Remains Unshaken

So, there’s been quite a bit of talk lately around Paris Saint-Germain and especially about Luis Enrique, and the story is actually more layered than it first appears. On the surface, he has shown a few signs of fatigue in recent weeks, especially during press conferences where he’s joked—half seriously—that there are simply too many of them. Walking into the press room before the Monaco trip, he even looked surprised to see so many reporters, teasing that six press briefings in a single week might be a bit much. And honestly, knowing he’s never been a fan of the media routine, those subtle hints of exhaustion didn’t go unnoticed.

But once you look beyond these small moments, you see a very different picture. Internally, there is absolutely no sense that Luis Enrique has lost motivation. If anything, it is being stressed that he remains fully committed and completely immersed in his work. People at the club admit he has been going through an emotionally delicate period—the anniversary of his daughter’s passing is always difficult for him, and he chose to surround himself with close family in Paris. Even so, his daily influence at the training ground has not wavered.

His standards are still extremely high: punctuality, diet, preparation, all the small details that shape elite performance. Nothing has been loosened. He continues to hold one-on-one talks with his main leaders—players like Vitinha, Marquinhos, Kvaratskhelia, or Neves—rather than relying too often on group speeches. And, as he constantly reminds his squad, his office door stays open for anyone who needs him.

The Champions League win from last season hasn’t softened him at all. In fact, his ambition has only grown. Retaining the trophy is openly part of his goals, and he’s convinced this team has not yet reached its full potential. What motivates him most is the feeling that the group is still hungry, still receptive, and not at all inclined to relax after success. Even in the face of multiple injuries, he isn’t demanding reinforcements for the winter transfer window. He prefers to lean on the players already in the squad, including the younger ones.

The only temporary adjustment he’s accepted is being a bit less demanding about style of play. He said recently that, given how complicated the early part of the season has been, winning matches—even without the full shine—is absolutely fine for now. That’s not resignation; it’s pragmatism, a short-term compromise while waiting for the squad to be complete again.

Deep down, what he wants is clear: reach the spring with a fully fit group and unleash the kind of football PSG displayed last season. Until then, despite a few visible signs of wear, the fire within Luis Enrique is still burning just as intensely.
