Rockstar Games’ legendary western, Red Dead Redemption , is once again stirring excitement — this time for its rumored arrival on modern consoles. According to a fresh ESRB listing, the iconic open-world adventure has been rated for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This new classification marks the first real indication that the beloved title is being prepared for a full next-generation re-release.
Originally released back in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Red Dead Redemption quickly became one of Rockstar’s most celebrated games — blending a gripping storyline, emotional depth, and the harsh beauty of the Old West. Now, fifteen years later, it looks like players will soon be able to relive John Marston’s journey with modern performance and visual upgrades.
The ESRB rating retains the game’s familiar “Mature 17+” label, citing its realistic violence, nudity, strong language, and depictions of drug use. What’s especially interesting is that the listing references the same story content and gameplay elements seen in the original game and its Undead Nightmare expansion. However, this time, the list of supported platforms includes the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 — a sign that Rockstar is fully embracing the next era of gaming hardware.

This development comes just months after Red Dead Redemption made its long-awaited PC debut in 2024. So, it’s reasonable to expect similar improvements for the PS5 and Xbox Series releases — potentially delivering smoother performance, faster load times, and enhanced visuals.
Rockstar’s decision to expand the game’s reach to Switch 2 also highlights Nintendo’s growing partnership with major third-party studios. In 2023, the original Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare DLC were ported to the first Switch, marking the series’ debut on a Nintendo system.
