According to sources, Adams’ response has been consistent and firm: “Not available at this time.” The message is clear—the Sabres aren’t looking to panic or make drastic trades just because the season is off to a rough start. Instead, the team is leaning on its younger players, like Isak Rosen, Noah Ostlund, and Josh Doan, hoping that they can provide a spark and help the club climb out of last place.
Buffalo has already made notable moves in recent months, including trading Dylan Cozens to Ottawa and J.J. Peterka to Utah. While Cozens has become a key contributor for the Senators, the incoming players like Josh Doan have begun to show promise, giving fans some optimism. Even so, the Sabres’ early-season struggles have only intensified the spotlight on Thompson, whose performance remains one of the few bright spots. This season, he’s already posted 12 points in 15 games, including six goals.
The league knows that Buffalo could be a seller if things don’t improve, but for now, the Sabres are holding firm. Thompson, who has a $7.142 million per year contract through 2030 and a partial no-trade clause, is a highly valuable asset, and moving him would signal the start of a full-scale rebuild.
