Sarah Abo Secures New Deal to Stay on Today with Karl Stefanovic
Channel Nine’s popular morning show Today is set to continue with its familiar duo at the helm — Sarah Abo and Karl Stefanovic — after Abo reportedly signed a fresh deal to remain on the desk in 2026. The announcement comes just days after headlines suggested that former Sunrise host Samantha Armytage might be stepping into the Today role full-time, a rumor that quickly caught attention across the Australian TV industry.

According to reports, Abo’s new contract solidifies her position as co-host of Today alongside Stefanovic, putting to rest speculation that Armytage was being lined up for the coveted gig. Armytage, who currently fronts The Golden Bachelor , will still appear on Today during the Christmas break, filling in alongside Nova radio personality Michael “Wippa” Wipfli.
Despite the buzz, it seems clear that Sarah Abo isn’t going anywhere. Sources close to the show revealed that she has officially agreed to a new deal with Nine, ensuring her return to the desk when the program resumes in January 2026. Her comeback will coincide with Nine’s major coverage of the Australian Open and the network’s refreshed summer lineup — a key period for ratings and advertising.
During Thursday’s broadcast, Abo appeared upbeat and professional as usual, even as headlines about Armytage’s temporary hosting spot circulated widely. It’s understood that Abo enlisted celebrity accountant Anthony Bell to handle the negotiations, a move that underlines her rising profile in the media landscape.
Abo first joined Today in 2022, stepping into the role previously held by Ally Langdon. Since then, she has built a steady rapport with Stefanovic, delivering a mix of sharp interviews and light-hearted moments that have helped steady the show’s performance in a competitive morning TV market. Reports suggest she currently earns around $800,000 a year, while Stefanovic’s salary is estimated at about $2 million. It remains unclear if her new contract will narrow that gap, especially as free-to-air broadcasters continue to face declining ad revenues.
Meanwhile, Samantha Armytage has downplayed any talk of replacing Abo, telling radio host Ben Fordham that she’s perfectly content in prime time. “Sarah and Karl are fantastic,” she said. “People love to speculate, but I’m very happy where I am with The Golden Bachelor .”
As for Today , the show will rotate a few familiar Nine faces before the main team returns — including Alison Piotrowski, Dr Nick Coatsworth, Joel Dry, and Jayne Azzopardi — keeping the breakfast audience engaged through the holiday period.
So, while rumours of change sparked plenty of chatter, the message now seems clear: Sarah Abo is staying put, and Today will keep its much-loved pairing of Abo and Stefanovic leading Australia’s mornings into 2026.
