What’s Open on Remembrance Day in Halifax
As Remembrance Day approaches, many people are wondering what will be open and accessible across Halifax. Traditionally, this day is a time to honor the sacrifices of veterans and to participate in commemorative events, so some services and businesses operate on a modified schedule. Public services such as government offices, banks, and many non-essential businesses are typically closed, allowing staff and citizens alike to observe the day with reflection and remembrance. This year, the first show of the season coincided with Remembrance Day, featuring a special projection on the facade of the former Halifax Memorial Library at Spring Garden Road and Grafton Street. These light shows are designed to run until January 18, 2026, offering visitors a chance to enjoy a variety of seasonal and cultural displays each evening, usually until 11 p.m. As dusk comes earlier toward the winter solstice, the shows are scheduled to start earlier in the evening.
