AirAsia Adds New Melbourne–Bali Flights for 2026 Travel Boom
So there’s some exciting news for Australian travellers, especially those who can’t get enough of Bali. A brand-new daily service between Melbourne and Denpasar has been confirmed by Indonesia AirAsia, and it’s scheduled to take off from 20 March 2026 . This comes at a time when Bali travel is booming yet again, and the demand from Aussies just keeps climbing.
What’s interesting here is that this new service becomes Indonesia AirAsia’s fourth Australian port , joining Perth, Darwin and Adelaide. It basically means Melbourne travellers are finally getting another low-cost option on one of the busiest leisure routes in the country. The flights will run between Melbourne Airport and Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, which makes the journey super convenient for holidaymakers looking for a quick island escape.

But the opportunities don’t stop at Bali. Thanks to this new route, travellers will also be able to go beyond Denpasar and explore more of Indonesia. Places like Jakarta, Surabaya, Lombok and Labuan Bajo —the gateway to Komodo National Park—become easier to reach. And if someone wants to continue their travels even further, AirAsia’s Fly-Thru service allows seamless connections to international destinations like Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Phuket without the hassle of collecting luggage during transit. It’s essentially one continuous journey.
According to Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency, Australians made up more than 23% of Bali’s 3.9 million international arrivals between January and July 2025. That’s a massive number, and it clearly shows how strong the relationship is between Australia and Bali. AirAsia’s acting CEO, Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman, highlighted that this new Melbourne–Denpasar route is meant to offer “greater, more affordable and flexible access” between the two countries. It’s also being seen as a way to strengthen economic and cultural ties.
The Consul-General of Indonesia in Melbourne added that this direct connection is a “tangible step” in deepening the strategic partnership between the nations. Better flight links don’t just boost tourism—they also make cooperation in education, business and culture much easier.
To celebrate the launch, AirAsia has released special promo fares starting at AU$199 one way from Melbourne to Bali. There are also Fly-Thru deals beginning from around AU$296 for those wanting to go beyond Indonesia.
With more seats, stronger competition and better connection opportunities, this new daily service is expected to make Bali travel even more accessible for Victorians—and open the door to much wider adventures across Southeast Asia.
