Steelers Break Out for Big Win Over Dolphins, Keep AFC North Lead
Monday night football in Pittsburgh brought the Steelers back into the spotlight after a rough 2025 season for their offense. For much of the first half, it looked like the team might struggle again, but Pittsburgh turned things around in a dominant second-half performance, defeating the Miami Dolphins 28-15 in a game that ultimately never felt close.
The Steelers’ victory improves their record to 8-6, giving them a one-game lead over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North. That lead is even more valuable considering Pittsburgh’s win over Baltimore in their only matchup this season. Meanwhile, the Dolphins’ loss officially eliminates them from playoff contention, ending their season on a disappointing note.
The first half of the game was slow and methodical. The Steelers opened with three punts, struggling to move the ball against a tough Dolphins defense. Miami managed a 54-yard field goal from Riley Patterson, giving them an early 3-0 lead, but neither offense could find a rhythm. Pittsburgh finally got on the board just before halftime with a 1-yard touchdown run from Connor Heyward, giving the home team a 7-3 edge.

Once the second half began, everything changed. Pittsburgh came out on fire, starting with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Rodgers, playing one of his best games as a Steeler, completed 23 of 27 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers. The offense’s confidence grew, and DK Metcalf powered his way for a 28-yard touchdown, muscling past multiple defenders to extend the lead to 21-3.
The Steelers piled on with a third consecutive touchdown when tight end Jonnu Smith ran 14 yards for a score, making it 28-3 and turning the game into a blowout. Miami added two late fourth-quarter touchdowns, but Pittsburgh’s control of the game was never in question. During the third-quarter surge, the Steelers outgained the Dolphins 163 yards to minus-20, showing just how dominant they had become.
Running the ball effectively also played a big role in Pittsburgh’s success. Five different Steelers rushers combined for 135 yards and two touchdowns, keeping Miami’s defense off balance and the clock moving. The win serves as a reminder that while criticism of Pittsburgh’s offense has been loud all season, they are capable of clicking when it matters most.
With three games left in the regular season, including a potential season-deciding matchup against the Ravens, the Steelers have maintained their path toward the playoffs. While beating a Dolphins team already eliminated from contention may not erase all concerns, this performance will certainly instill confidence in the team and fans alike as they push toward the postseason.
Pittsburgh has shown that when their offense fires on all cylinders, they are a tough team to beat. Now, all eyes will be on how they finish the season and whether this momentum can carry them deep into the playoffs.
