South Korea Considers Arming Ukraine as North Korean Troops Aid Russia in War
Recent developments suggest that the Korean Peninsula may be drawn deeper into the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with both North and South Korea becoming more involved. South Korea is now considering sending defensive and lethal weapons to Ukraine, marking a significant policy shift for Seoul. This move follows reports that North Korean troops have been deployed to Russia, training to support Moscow’s military operations in Ukraine.
South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) revealed that approximately 1,500 North Korean soldiers, including elite special forces, have already arrived in Russia’s Far East. These forces are reportedly undergoing training to fight alongside Russian troops. The number of North Korean troops is expected to increase, with local media suggesting that up to 12,000 soldiers will be deployed in total. This growing collaboration between Pyongyang and Moscow has raised concerns in Seoul, which convened an emergency meeting to assess the situation.

The South Korean government has also summoned Russia’s ambassador, demanding the immediate withdrawal of North Korean troops. However, the Kremlin has remained vague, asserting that their cooperation with Pyongyang falls within international law.
