Widespread 911 Outage Affects Police Departments Across Connecticut
Today, police departments throughout Connecticut are grappling with significant disruptions to their phone systems, including 911 emergency services. Around midday, residents across the state were notified via a public safety alert about the issue. This alert stressed the importance of using the 911 text service if unable to place a call, but emphasized that texting should only be used for emergencies.
Several police departments, including those in Hartford, Groton, and South Windsor, have reported intermittent or complete outages of their emergency lines. Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert described the situation as a "statewide problem," confirming that efforts are underway to restore full service. Hartford residents are advised to text 911 if they are unable to reach emergency services by phone.

In Groton, the police department announced difficulties in receiving 911 calls from some cellular carriers. They urged residents to call an alternate number, 860–441–6712, in case of emergency. Similarly, the Branford Police Department experienced a full 911 outage and directed individuals to call their local emergency line, 203-481-4241.
Social media updates have been instrumental in disseminating information, with departments like South Windsor and West Hartford using their platforms to inform residents about temporary solutions. South Windsor police reported that while routine lines were down, their 911 system remained functional. However, in West Hartford, certain carriers like Verizon Wireless and landlines were failing to connect with 911 services, while others, such as AT&T and T-Mobile, were still operational.
New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker also addressed the crisis by urging residents to contact the Yale emergency line at 203-432-4400 for life-threatening situations during the outage. The city, along with other municipalities, has been working closely with state officials to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
While the cause of this outage remains unclear, authorities are actively coordinating with vendors and service providers to restore phone services across the state. Until the issue is fully resolved, residents are being asked to remain calm and use alternative numbers or texting for emergencies.
