In a deeply tragic and emotional case, former professional cyclist Rohan Dennis has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge related to the death of his wife, fellow Olympian Melissa Hoskins. This incident occurred outside their Adelaide home on December 30, 2023, when Melissa was struck by a car driven by Dennis. His wife, Melissa Hoskins, was a respected figure in the cycling world as well, winning gold in the women’s team pursuit at the 2015 World Championships and representing Australia in two Olympic Games. The couple, who married in 2018, had two children together.
Dennis’s lawyer clarified in court that there was no intention to harm his wife, and that the charges did not hold him responsible for her death. Instead, the charge acknowledged that his actions created a situation where harm was likely, though it did not amount to a deliberate or fatal intent.
Melissa Hoskins was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital after the accident but tragically passed away due to her injuries.
