Jack Fincham Sentenced to Jail After Dangerous Dog Incidents

Jack Fincham, the former Love Island winner, has found himself in hot water after a series of troubling incidents involving his dog, Elvis. Fincham, aged 32, was sentenced to six weeks in prison after his cane corso dog bit a runner in 2022. The situation escalated further, resulting in a second incident, which ultimately led to Fincham being charged. The former reality TV star was found guilty of two counts of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog. The case was heard at Southend Magistrates' Court, where Fincham was given a six-week jail sentence.

The first incident took place in Swanley, Kent, in September 2022, when Elvis attacked a man named Robert Sudell, who was out for a run. Sudell initially accepted Fincham’s apology, and it seemed like the matter would be resolved without criminal action. Fincham was even advised to take a responsible dog ownership course and was informed that his dog must be muzzled in public. However, just months later, in June 2023, a second incident occurred in Grays, Essex, when Elvis was again out of control and reportedly grabbed a woman’s leg, though she was not injured.

At the time of the Swanley incident, Fincham was already serving a suspended sentence for an unrelated driving matter, which further complicated his legal situation. This meant that, when sentencing, the judge decided to activate part of the suspended sentence, resulting in a six-week prison term. Fincham’s lawyer argued that he had no savings to pay the fines, but the court insisted on a total payment of £3,680. This amount included a £2,000 contribution to kenneling fees, a £961 fine, and £200 compensation for the victim, Mr. Sudell. The court also mandated that Fincham’s dog be muzzled and kept on a lead whenever in public and that it not be left alone with anyone under the age of 16.

After his sentencing, Fincham was led to the cells, giving a thumbs up as he left the courtroom, while a woman in the gallery was visibly upset. It’s clear that this situation has taken a significant toll on his life, both professionally and personally. Fincham, who rose to fame on Love Island in 2018, winning the show with his then-girlfriend Dani Dyer, is now facing the consequences of his actions. The couple parted ways just months after the show’s end.

The case has sparked widespread discussion about responsible pet ownership, with many expressing concern over the behavior of dangerous dogs and the responsibility of their owners. While Fincham was given a chance to remedy the situation with a caution after the first attack, the repeat incidents showed that more serious intervention was needed. The public will no doubt continue to follow this story as Fincham begins his sentence, and as more conversations are likely to unfold regarding the safety of dangerous dog breeds in public spaces.
