Virgin Australia Crew Attacked in Fiji: Allegations Spark Concern
In an incident that has drawn widespread attention, members of Virgin Australia's flight crew were allegedly assaulted and robbed during a layover in Nadi, Fiji, on New Year's Eve. According to reports, the incident occurred outside a popular nightclub in the early hours of January 1, 2025. The alleged victims, a male and a female crew member, experienced separate attacks—one reportedly robbed, while the other faced sexual assault. Local authorities have since launched an investigation.
Fijian police have identified suspects and questioned individuals in connection with the events. Assistant Police Commissioner Juki Chew Fong stated that investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made thus far. The crew members have been advised by Virgin Australia management to stay at their designated hotel, assisting law enforcement with inquiries while ensuring their safety.

This incident has also prompted statements from Fiji's Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister, Viliame Gavoka, who reassured the public that such occurrences, though unfortunate, do not reflect the general safety of Fiji. Gavoka emphasized the nation's dedication to providing a secure environment for all visitors while urging tourists to exercise caution, particularly in nightlife areas.
