Doug Ford Wins Historic Third Term in Ontario Election 2025
Doug Ford and the Progressive Conservatives have done it again! The Ontario election results are in, and Ford has secured a third consecutive majority government, making him one of the longest-serving premiers in the province’s history. His party won 80 seats, a dominant victory that solidifies his leadership and keeps the opposition scrambling for relevance.
For the Ontario Liberals, it was a tough night. Bonnie Crombie, the party’s leader, failed to win her own seat in Mississauga. Despite the setback, she has vowed to stay on as leader and continue rebuilding the party. The Liberals did manage to regain official party status by securing 14 seats, but it's clear they still have a long road ahead if they want to challenge the PCs in the future.

Meanwhile, the NDP held onto 27 seats, remaining the official opposition. The Greens also made small gains, winning two seats, while one independent candidate secured a spot in the legislature.
One of the big talking points of this election was voter turnout. Early data suggests that about 45% of eligible voters cast their ballots—just slightly higher than the record-low turnout of the 2022 election. Holding an election in the middle of winter was expected to discourage voters, but despite the cold and snow, Ontarians still showed up to make their voices heard.
A major issue on the campaign trail was Donald Trump's proposed tariffs on Canadian goods. Ford positioned himself as the defender of Ontario’s economy, promising to fight back against any U.S. trade policies that could hurt jobs in the province. His strong stance may have played a big role in securing another victory, as he successfully rallied support with his “Ontario First” message.
So, what’s next for Ontario under Ford’s leadership? Expect a continued focus on infrastructure projects, job creation, and healthcare reform. His government has also promised to push for more immigration focused on skilled trades, an effort to fill labor shortages in key industries. However, with rising inflation and ongoing challenges in healthcare, he’s got a lot on his plate for this next term.
For now, though, it’s celebration time for the PCs. Ford’s gamble to call an early election paid off, and Ontario voters have given him yet another mandate to lead. Whether you love him or hate him, one thing is clear—Doug Ford is here to stay.
