Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer Face Lawsuit Over Shocking Allegations
So, this is big. Acclaimed author Neil Gaiman and his wife, musician Amanda Palmer, are now at the center of a massive legal controversy. A lawsuit filed on Monday accuses Gaiman of repeated rape and human trafficking, with Palmer allegedly playing a role in enabling the abuse. These claims come from Scarlett Pavlovich, a former nanny who worked for the couple.
According to the lawsuit, Pavlovich, who was in a vulnerable financial and mental state, was hired as a live-in nanny while the couple was living separately on Waiheke Island, New Zealand. Over the course of her employment, she alleges that Gaiman sexually assaulted her multiple times in violent and degrading ways, even forcing her to call him "master." She claims that Palmer knew about Gaiman’s past misconduct and still brought her into the household.
These allegations first surfaced publicly last year through a Tortoise Media podcast and were further detailed in a New York Magazine article, which also included accusations from multiple other women against Gaiman. The lawsuit states that Pavlovich endured the abuse out of fear of losing her job, home, and promised career support. She says that by the time she left the Gaiman-Palmer household, she was suicidal and required psychiatric hospitalization.
Gaiman has denied all accusations, calling them "distorted" and claiming that while he hasn’t always been perfect in his personal relationships, he has never engaged in non-consensual sex. In a post titled Breaking the Silence , he admitted to being selfish and careless with people’s feelings but maintained that some of the claims being made "simply never happened."

Palmer, meanwhile, has been more reserved in her statements. She expressed that she was "profoundly disturbed" by the allegations but said that due to ongoing divorce and custody proceedings, she couldn’t publicly comment further.
The fallout has already begun. Several publishers, including HarperCollins and Dark Horse Comics, have cut ties with Gaiman. Netflix recently announced that The Sandman will conclude with its upcoming second season, though they haven’t explicitly linked this decision to the allegations. Other projects, such as a Coraline stage production and Disney’s planned adaptation of The Graveyard Book , have also been put on hold.
Pavlovich’s lawsuit, filed in multiple states, seeks damages of at least $7 million. She claims Palmer knowingly "presented" her to Gaiman despite being aware of his alleged behavior. Legal experts suggest this case could take years to unfold, but its impact on Gaiman’s career is already being felt.
This is a major moment in the literary and entertainment world, and no doubt, more details will emerge in the coming weeks. If these allegations hold up in court, it could permanently tarnish the legacy of one of the most celebrated authors of our time.
