North Korea Deploys More Troops to Russia Amid Heavy Losses
It looks like North Korea has once again sent more troops to Russia, reinforcing its presence on the front lines in the ongoing war with Ukraine. According to South Korea’s intelligence agency, an undisclosed number of additional North Korean soldiers have been deployed to Russia, while others have been repositioned to the western Kursk region. This move comes after reports of heavy losses suffered by North Korean forces since they first joined the conflict last year.
While the exact number of new troops remains unclear, South Korean military sources estimate that at least 1,000 soldiers have been sent in this latest wave. Neither Moscow nor Pyongyang has officially confirmed the deployment, but multiple intelligence reports suggest that North Korea has been playing an active role in supporting Russia’s war efforts.

This isn’t the first time North Korean troops have been spotted in Russia. Reports indicate that around 11,000 soldiers were initially deployed, and many have already faced significant casualties. Western officials believe that at least 1,000 North Korean troops were killed in just three months, with thousands more injured. The Ukrainian military has also observed that these troops seem unprepared for modern warfare, making them particularly vulnerable to Ukraine’s advanced drone and artillery attacks.
Despite the challenges, North Korea appears committed to deepening its military ties with Russia. Over the past year, the two countries have strengthened their cooperation, with Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin meeting multiple times and even signing a defense treaty. Satellite images suggest that North Korean soldiers were transported by Russian naval ships, using secretive routes to avoid detection.
Ukraine has been battling these new reinforcements since October, and although some of the North Korean troops were pulled back briefly, they have now returned to the front lines. While Moscow has been tight-lipped about its losses, Ukraine continues to claim significant victories, holding onto key territories and inflicting heavy casualties.
This latest development raises serious questions about North Korea’s role in global conflicts. As Pyongyang continues to send soldiers and possibly military equipment to Russia, it’s clear that the relationship between these two nations is evolving beyond simple diplomatic ties. The war in Ukraine remains unpredictable, and with North Korea now actively involved, the stakes just got even higher.
