Mardi Gras 2025 Kicks Off Early Amid Weather Concerns
Alright, folks, it’s that time of the year again—Mardi Gras! The biggest and most colorful celebration in New Orleans is in full swing, but this year, things are shaking up a bit. Due to some unpredictable weather, parade schedules have been adjusted, and the city is making sure everyone can enjoy the festivities safely.
Normally, Mardi Gras parades roll throughout the day, but this year, officials decided to start early. The famous Zulu parade kicked off bright and early at 6:30 a.m. , followed by Rex at 9:30 a.m. —both on shortened routes to avoid the incoming weather conditions. Zulu’s traditional toast at Gallier Hall still happened, but instead of their usual full route, they disbanded at Poydras and Loyola. Rex, which usually follows Zulu, started at Napoleon and South Claiborne Avenue but skipped its toast at Gallier Hall and wrapped up at St. Charles Avenue and Calliope Street.

Unfortunately, some parades didn’t make the cut. The truck floats that typically follow Zulu and Rex were canceled and rescheduled for Sunday, March 9 —time still to be determined. Over in Jefferson Parish, the Krewe of Argus and other truck parades were completely canceled . Meanwhile, the Krewe of Bogue Falaya in Covington still managed to roll at 9:15 a.m. , and the Krewe of Houmas in Houma started at 11:30 a.m.
