Giannis Antetokounmpo Sidelined vs Warriors Amid Knee Soreness
It’s been quite a rollercoaster for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo this week. Just when fans thought he’d suit up for the big matchup against the Golden State Warriors, the team announced he’d been ruled out due to left knee soreness. The update came shortly after Giannis made headlines for arriving at the arena dressed in a full Minion costume for Halloween — adding a lighthearted twist to an otherwise disappointing situation for Bucks fans.
Giannis had initially been listed as “probable” on the Bucks’ injury report heading into the game, but as tip-off neared, the team made the decision to sit him out. It’s not the first time the Greek Freak has dealt with knee issues. Throughout the 2024–25 season, he battled multiple injuries — from left shoulder tendinopathy to recurring knee and calf problems — which forced him to miss 15 games. Even so, when he was healthy, Giannis looked every bit like an MVP contender, averaging over 30 points, nearly 12 rebounds, and 6 assists per game while shooting an impressive 60% from the field.

This season, Giannis has been on an absolute tear. Through the Bucks’ first four games, he’s averaged 36.3 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists per game, hitting 69.5% from the floor and an eye-popping 57.1% from three-point range. Those numbers are elite even by his own high standards, making his sudden absence a big blow to Milwaukee as they try to maintain their strong 3–1 start.
With Giannis sidelined, the Bucks will need to rely more heavily on players like Bobby Portis, Taurean Prince, and Cole Anthony to step up offensively. Kevin Porter Jr. is also out with a left ankle sprain, marking his fourth consecutive missed game, so depth will definitely be tested. Ryan Rollins is expected to continue running the point for the first unit, as the Bucks look to keep their momentum alive against a Warriors team that’s been equally strong at 4–1.
For Giannis, this appears to be more about precaution than panic. At 30 years old and still playing at a dominant level, the Bucks are being cautious about managing his workload early in the season — especially given how critical his health is to their long-term championship hopes. After all, when Giannis is on the floor, Milwaukee instantly transforms into one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA.
While fans were treated to his fun Halloween costume, they’ll be hoping to see the Greek Freak back in uniform — not yellow overalls — very soon.
