Warren Tredrea Removed from Port Adelaide Board Amid Governance Dispute
Former Port Adelaide premiership captain Warren Tredrea has officially been dismissed from the club’s board of directors, following months of tension over social media content linked to his podcast. The decision, confirmed by the Port Adelaide Football Club, came after what was described as an extensive governance review and multiple failed attempts to resolve the matter internally.
It all began when concerns were raised earlier this year about comments made by a guest, AJ Roberts, on Tredrea’s podcast. During the episode, Roberts made controversial and antisemitic claims — suggesting Israel was a “fake state” and linking Zionists to historical atrocities, including the 9/11 attacks and World War II. The Jewish Council of Australia quickly condemned the remarks, saying the post promoted “far-right antisemitic conspiracy theories.”

In response, Tredrea insisted that he was not antisemitic “in any way, shape, or form” and said it was defamatory for anyone to suggest otherwise. Still, the Port Adelaide board initiated a formal governance review, seeking to address the controversy. As part of that process, the club formally requested Tredrea issue a public apology — not only to the club but also to anyone offended by the remarks shared on his podcast.
However, the former captain refused to make that apology, maintaining his stance even after several discussions with the board. In a statement, the club said it had “exhausted all reasonable avenues for resolution” and concluded that Tredrea’s continuation as a director was “not in the best interests of the club.”
The removal was conducted with the support of the AFL and in accordance with both the Corporations Act and the club’s constitution. Port Adelaide emphasised that the decision was purely about governance standards, not about Tredrea’s legacy as a player. The club acknowledged his immense contribution — as a premiership captain, club champion, and one of the greatest players in its history — and clarified that his legacy “remains untarnished and separate from this governance decision.”
Tredrea had joined the board as a member-elected director in early 2024, bringing with him a wealth of on-field experience and a strong following among Port Adelaide fans. Now, with his departure, the club has announced it will move forward with the process of electing a new director at the next Annual General Meeting.
While the club says no further comment will be made, this episode has sparked wide debate among fans and commentators — some defending the club’s right to uphold governance standards, while others argue that Tredrea’s removal could have been avoided. Either way, the situation has left a notable mark on one of Port Adelaide’s most respected figures off the field.
