Darnold Dominates as Seahawks Crush Commanders 38–14
The Sunday night matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Commanders was anything but close. It turned into a showcase for Sam Darnold, who delivered one of his best performances yet, leading Seattle to a commanding 38–14 victory on the road in Landover, Maryland.
From the opening drive, the Seahawks looked sharp and confident. Darnold came out firing, connecting with rookie receiver Tory Horton for the first touchdown of the night. But that was only the beginning. In the second quarter, Horton struck again with a 25-yard touchdown reception, and the momentum quickly shifted entirely toward Seattle. On the very next kickoff, Washington’s returner Jaylin Lane fumbled after a big hit by 334-pound lineman Brandon Pili, giving the Seahawks a short field. Darnold immediately capitalized, tossing a 26-yard strike to tight end Elijah Arroyo for another score. Within minutes, the game had gone from competitive to completely out of reach, with Seattle up 21–0.

Darnold didn’t let up. Late in the second quarter, he found receiver Cody White deep for a 60-yard touchdown, his fourth of the half. At that point, Darnold had completed all 16 of his passes for 282 yards, posting a perfect passer rating of 158.3. By halftime, the Seahawks led 31–7, leaving the home crowd in stunned silence—and even prompting some fans to head for the exits early.
The Commanders’ struggles were evident from the start. Their defense couldn’t contain Seattle’s balanced attack, and their offense failed to find rhythm. Quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was last season’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, had a rough outing. His passes were under pressure all night, and the Commanders managed just one late first-half touchdown before things took an unfortunate turn.
In the fourth quarter, with the game long decided, Daniels was tackled awkwardly and suffered a gruesome-looking left arm injury. He had to be helped off the field with his arm immobilized, leaving both teams visibly shaken. It was a tough sight, especially considering Washington was already down by more than 30 points at the time.
For Seattle, the win marked a defining moment in their season. Now sitting at 6–2, they’ve established themselves as serious contenders in the NFC West. The defense is playing at an elite level, and Darnold looks completely in control of the offense, showing poise and precision that’s silencing critics who once doubted him. Since the start of last season, Darnold’s teams have gone 20–5—an impressive run that’s starting to get the recognition it deserves.
As for Washington, the loss dropped them to 3–6, a far cry from their 12-win campaign last year. With Daniels’ injury and ongoing struggles on both sides of the ball, the Commanders face a steep uphill climb to salvage their season. Meanwhile, Seattle’s statement win ensures they’ll be a team to watch closely as the playoff race heats up.
