O'Reilly’s Goal Not Enough as Predators Fall to Flyers
Last night at Bridgestone Arena, the Nashville Predators fought hard but ultimately came up short against the Philadelphia Flyers, falling 3-1 in a game that left fans hoping for more. Ryan O’Reilly scored the lone goal for Nashville, giving the team an early lead, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide. This loss completes the season series against Philadelphia with two defeats for the Predators.
The game got off to an exciting start when Filip Forsberg’s shot, just 1:44 into the first period, deflected off a Flyers defender before hitting O’Reilly and finding the back of the net. That early goal gave Nashville a 1-0 advantage, but the Flyers soon responded. The second period became a physical and chippy affair, with Philadelphia managing to score twice, taking a 2-1 lead into the final frame. Nashville continued to control possession and spend long stretches in the offensive zone, yet the Flyers added an empty-net goal to seal the win.

“It’s kind of been the story a little bit, right?” Predators defenseman Nic Hague said, reflecting on the team’s recent struggles to convert chances into goals. “It’s been a little frustrating. It felt like we could have definitely had more than one tonight, but just kind of seems to be the way it’s going… it’s frustrating for sure.” O’Reilly echoed that sentiment, noting the team’s desire to simply win games. “It’s nice having the puck in the offensive zone, but when you don’t win games, it’s disappointing. There are good things, but we’ve got to find a way to win games.”
Head Coach Andrew Brunette also addressed the team’s difficulties. “I think we had a lot of opportunities to score, but they didn’t go in. We still believe we can do things a little quicker, have better netfront presence, and maintain the motion, movement, and possession time we’ve been working on. We just have to find a way to break through.”
Despite the disappointment, the team remains focused on improving. Hague emphasized the importance of effort and commitment as the Predators try to define their identity. “We’ve just got to find that next step. A little bit more from everybody… We’re committed to that, and we’ll be better for it when we come out the other side.”
Nashville’s lineup remained mostly unchanged from their previous game, with forward Zach L’Heureux as the only healthy scratch. The Predators will look to rebound in their final home game before traveling to Sweden, hosting the Dallas Stars on Saturday afternoon, followed by a matchup against the New York Rangers on Monday night before heading to Stockholm for the NHL Global Series.
It was a night that showcased O’Reilly’s skill and determination, but in the end, Nashville left the ice still searching for the goals and momentum needed to turn close games into victories.
