Severe Thunderstorms Possible Today
Well hello everyone and welcome back to Mirror7News! We've got some important weather updates for you today, particularly if you're in the United States, as a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for many areas. It's that time of year when the atmosphere can become quite active and we're seeing the potential for some strong storms developing this afternoon. You'll want to stay aware of your local conditions and have a plan in place, just in case.
Right now, the forecast indicates that spotty thunderstorms could pop up today, specifically between 12 p.m. and 9 p.m. While widespread severe weather isn't anticipated, some of these storms might pack a punch with brief, gusty winds, hail and heavy downpours. The conditions this morning are described as muggy, which is certainly a precursor for atmospheric instability. Highs today are expected to be near 80 degrees, with a mix of clouds and sunshine, but remember to keep an eye on the sky as those storms approach.
Also Read:Looking ahead to the weekend, things are set to change quite a bit after today's storm potential. Saturday is shaping up to be mainly sunny and warm, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s. Winds will be coming in from the south, adding to that warm, summery feel we're all looking forward to. Saturday night will remain clear before becoming more humid, with overnight lows in the upper 60s, setting the stage for another potential round of storms.
Sunday brings back a chance for scattered thunderstorms and some of these could also be strong, especially in the evening hours. The heat index values might reach around 90 degrees, so it's going to feel quite warm and sticky. We'll see winds from the southeast and like today, higher gusts are possible near any developing storms. These spotty storms could even linger into Monday morning, keeping things unsettled for the start of the new week.
The forecast for next week suggests a continuation of warm and humid conditions, with scattered thunderstorms remaining a possibility throughout Monday and Tuesday. Highs will generally be in the 80s, but by Wednesday through Friday, the heat and humidity are expected to really ramp up. We could be looking at highs in the low 90s, with heat index values in the low to mid 90s and yes, more thunderstorms are on the horizon, some of which could become severe. It looks like we might finally see a break from the heat towards the following weekend, with highs dropping back into the 70s.
So, while today’s storms are the immediate concern, it’s important to note the pattern developing for next week with that significant heat and humidity building. Make sure you're prepared for the possibility of strong storms today and keep an eye on the forecast as we head into the warmer, more humid days ahead. Stay with Mirror 7 News for all updates as they happen.
