Cold Today, Warmer Sunday: A Glimpse into Kansas Weather

Today, Kansans are facing a chilly day, but the good news is that temperatures are set to rise by Sunday, offering a brief respite before the holiday week. Meteorologist Dean Jones shared that while today will feel quite cold, the state can look forward to a warm-up starting this weekend. A high-pressure system over the Midwest is keeping skies clear today, with plenty of sunshine. This will allow temperatures to remain relatively cool, with highs reaching only in the low 40s. With lighter winds today, it’s a great opportunity to enjoy the sun, but you'll still need to bundle up to stay comfortable.

As we move into the weekend, Kansas is in for a big change. By Sunday, warmer temperatures will begin to take hold, and they will last throughout the week, even into Christmas. Highs across the state will climb into the 40s and 50s, with even milder conditions expected. This means that any outdoor plans you have for the weekend or early next week can proceed without the worry of frigid weather.

Looking ahead to Christmas week, there are a couple of weather systems to keep an eye on. One system is expected to arrive Monday night, bringing a slight chance of drizzle and light showers, particularly in southern and eastern Kansas. This will likely extend into Tuesday morning, but snow is not expected, as temperatures remain too warm for it. Another system could arrive shortly after Christmas, around Wednesday or Thursday, bringing more rain. While these systems may bring some precipitation, snow doesn’t seem likely at this point due to the prevailing mild temperatures.

While the forecast shows a warm-up, the chance of snow is low. Most of the rain expected will likely remain confined to southern Kansas, and even then, it’s unlikely to be significant. As we approach the latter part of the week, the weather pattern could become more active, with rain possible again on Thursday, following Christmas. Temperatures will remain fairly mild, hovering in the upper 40s and low 50s, which will help keep the precipitation in liquid form.

Kansas residents can expect a quiet, mostly sunny day today with temperatures in the low 40s and clear skies tonight. However, with the return of warmth on Sunday, people can enjoy a pleasant weekend with highs in the upper 40s to mid-50s. It's also worth noting that while this period of cold weather will be the most intense over the next few weeks, the coming days promise a significant shift toward more seasonal and even unseasonably mild conditions as we head into the Christmas week. So, take advantage of the sunshine while it lasts and look forward to warmer days ahead.
