James Gunn TweaksSupermanAfter Test Screenings – Minor Changes Ahead

James Gunn’s Superman has officially had its first test screenings, and according to the director himself, the team is already making some small adjustments based on audience feedback. Gunn, who is both directing and leading DC Studios, confirmed that while the movie is still very much on track for its July release, they’re taking what they’ve learned from the screenings and refining certain elements in the editing process.

Speaking at a press event, Gunn explained, “We’ve done real screenings, and we’re definitely learning stuff all the time. We’re making little changes, and, you know, we might shoot a couple of tiny things.” That last part—about additional photography—naturally sparked speculation about reshoots, something that can sometimes be a red flag for big-budget films. However, Gunn reassured fans that these would be nothing major, just minor pickups to enhance the final product.

He admitted that his view on reshoots has evolved over the years. “I used to be kind of against it because, you know, you don’t want to have to shoot again—it’s a pain. But as time has gone on, I really like being able to say, ‘I wish I had a shot of that fist hitting…’ and then going back to get it.” He emphasized that this kind of fine-tuning is part of his filmmaking process now, rather than a sign of trouble.

The anticipation for Superman is massive, as this marks the first film in Gunn and Peter Safran’s reimagined DC Universe. Starring David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, the movie promises to bring a fresh take on the legendary hero. While plot details remain scarce, the first trailer teased a wide array of DC characters and intense action sequences, hinting at a major battle for Clark Kent.

Despite a few shifts in the lineup, the DCU is pushing forward, and Superman remains a key launchpad for the franchise’s new direction.

With only a few months left until its theatrical debut, Gunn and his team are ensuring that Superman delivers the best possible experience. If all goes well, this could be the Superman movie fans have been waiting for.
