You know, Martin Compston has truly mastered the art of balance. The man divides his time between the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas and the rugged charm of Greenock, and somehow, he keeps both close to his heart. While many actors get swept away by Hollywood’s allure, Compston stays rooted—always finding ways to work on projects that bring him back home. And his latest thriller, Fear , is the perfect example of that.

This new Amazon Prime series, based on Dirk Kurbjuweit’s novel, gave him a chance to film in Glasgow, and honestly, he couldn't be happier. For him, getting a script that’s set in Scotland and allows him to stay close to family? That’s a dream gig. Plus, he’s thrilled that Glasgow itself gets a bit of a different spotlight in Fear . The city is often portrayed as gritty and rough, but this time, audiences will see its stunning, grand architecture and beauty.

In Fear , Compston plays Martyn, an architect who moves his family from London to a picturesque Glasgow townhouse, only to find that their new home comes with some disturbing surprises—especially a creepy neighbor lurking downstairs. It’s an edge-of-your-seat thriller that dives into moral grey areas, asking just how far someone would go to protect their loved ones. And let’s be honest, we all know the nightmare that is dealing with bad neighbors, right?

But it’s not just Fear that has kept Compston busy on Scottish soil. He’s also filmed two seasons of The Rig , the drama Mayflies , and even his fun travel series Scottish Fling . For him, nothing beats being able to work in Scotland and still make it home to Greenock on the weekends. He even jokes that while a warm Vegas night is lovely, the view from his couch in Greenock, watching massive cruise ships roll in, is just as spectacular.

Of course, the Line of Duty fans are still waiting on news about a return. And while he, Vicky McClure, Adrian Dunbar, and creator Jed Mercurio are all still tight, they’re also wrapped up in different projects right now. According to Compston, they’d all love to do it again someday, but only when the right story comes along. No one wants to bring it back just for the sake of it—it has to be something special.

So, what’s next for him? Aside from Fear , he’s working on ITV’s Red Eye , stepping into another leading role. He’s also got a Channel 4 documentary about his life in Vegas coming out soon. And with the way things are going, it’s clear that no matter where he is—Hollywood, Glasgow, or Greenock—Martin Compston is making sure he’s always got a piece of home with him.
