Big news out of Lawrence — the Kansas Jayhawks just landed a game-changer. Kohl Rosario, the electric 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Miami who’s been making waves in the recruiting world, has officially committed to Bill Self and the University of Kansas. And this isn’t just a routine commitment. Rosario, previously part of the class of 2026, has reclassified to 2025, meaning he’ll suit up for KU this upcoming season . That’s right — Kansas fans, you won’t have to wait to see this rising star in crimson and blue.
Coming off his official visit to Lawrence just last week, Rosario didn’t waste any time making his decision. And it’s easy to see why — the KU coaching staff clearly made a powerful impression. The Jayhawks had been seeking more perimeter shooting and athleticism, and Rosario checks both boxes in a big way. He’s not just talented — he’s also battle-tested, having played in both Nike’s EYBL with Team CP3 and with the YNG Dreamerz in the Overtime Elite League. In those circuits, he lit it up, averaging 14.2 points and shooting 44.4% from deep in the EYBL, and dropping 30 points on a perfect 10-for-10 shooting performance in Abu Dhabi at the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague.
Kansas wasn’t the only school chasing Rosario. He drew offers from the likes of Duke, North Carolina, Florida State, Baylor, Oregon, and Miami — all blue-bloods or power programs. But in the end, it was Kansas and coach Bill Self who sealed the deal. Self said it best in his official statement: “It’s not often there’s a player of his potential available this late. He’s one of the hardest-working youngsters we’ve ever recruited.”
This move is especially significant for KU, which had been quiet in the recruiting market lately. Rosario’s addition not only fills a need but boosts a roster that already includes other promising freshmen like Samis Calderon, Bryson Tiller, and Darryn Peterson. With Rosario now in the mix alongside Loyola-Chicago transfer Jayden Dawson, Kansas suddenly has a potent arsenal of shooters for the 2025-26 campaign.
Rosario’s path to Lawrence has been anything but ordinary. After initially being a 2025 high school recruit, he moved to the 2026 class, only to reclassify again and join KU this fall. It’s a similar move to what Johnny Furphy did when he joined the Jayhawks back in 2023 — and we all know how that worked out.
So here we are. Kohl Rosario, once a name flying under the radar, is now front and center. Kansas got their guy. And with Rosario’s explosiveness, deep shooting range, and competitive fire, the Jayhawks might’ve just found their next breakout star.
