India’s Late Blitz in Hobart Levels T20 Series Against Australia
What a night it was in Hobart! The third T20 international between India and Australia turned out to be a thrilling contest filled with big hits, late drama, and a brilliant finish from Washington Sundar that helped India level the five-match series at 1-1.
Australia’s innings started with a bit of trouble after being sent in to bat. They stumbled early to 2 for 14, but local hero Tim David completely changed the momentum. Playing on his home turf, David smashed an explosive 74 from just 38 balls, peppering the stands with five massive sixes, including one that travelled an incredible 129 metres. It was pure power hitting, the kind of performance that electrified the crowd at Bellerive Oval. He got some solid support from Marcus Stoinis, who played a crucial knock of 64 off 39 deliveries. Together, they helped Australia post a strong total of 6 for 186, despite India’s disciplined spells in the death overs.

For India, Arshdeep Singh stood out with the ball. The left-arm pacer took 3 for 35, striking early by removing Travis Head and Josh Inglis. Varun Chakaravarthy, the mystery spinner, also chipped in with two wickets, making a comeback after being hit for a couple of early boundaries.
When it was India’s turn to chase, the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals but never really lost control. Openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma got starts, and even though Nathan Ellis, who picked up 3 for 36, kept the Australians in the hunt, India’s batting depth made all the difference.
The real hero, though, was Washington Sundar. Playing his first match of the series, he came in under pressure but turned the game around with an unbeaten 49 off just 23 balls. His timing was impeccable — two consecutive sixes off Sean Abbott in one over completely shifted the momentum. Alongside him, Jitesh Sharma, the new wicketkeeper, stayed cool and sealed the chase with 22 not out. India reached the target with nine balls to spare, ending at 5 for 188.
It was a perfect example of composure under pressure. Sundar’s innings wasn’t just about power; it was about smart cricket — choosing his moments, punishing the right deliveries, and ensuring no panic set in despite wickets falling around him.
The result now leaves the five-match series evenly poised at 1-1, with two more games to come — the next one on the Gold Coast. With both sides showing flashes of brilliance, the stage is perfectly set for a thrilling finish to this T20 showdown. India’s win in Hobart not only brought them back into the contest but also reminded everyone just how deep their talent pool really runs.
